Cycling Proficiency / School Travel Plan

We have recently submitted the first draft of our School Travel Plan and have already benefited from being involved with this LEA initiative by the welcome addition of a 50 space cycle shelter between the Year Six Block and the Year Four mobiles! Children in Years Five and Six who have successfully completed their cycle safety training, and those currently undertaking it, have been invited to use their cycles to travel to and from school. We have established some conditions to this:

· Pupils may only cycle to and from school with their parents' permission
· Pupils may not ride in the school grounds: entry is by the main gate and cycles must then be pushed to the shelter
· All cycles must be kept locked and any loose accessories removed
· Cycle helmets should be kept in the cloakrooms

and finally
· Care must be taken at all times to ride safely, paying attention to prevailing traffic and weather conditions.

We hope that, for some pupils, careful use of cycles will prove to be a viable and healthy alternative to using the car!
